Setup effort and hidden costs
- AI is not on Basic (MyCase pricing, checked Oct 19, 2026).
- Monthly billing costs $10 to $20 more per user than yearly (MyCase pricing, checked Oct 19, 2026).
- Discovery pages beyond the pooled allowance cost extra (MyCase pricing, checked Oct 19, 2026).
Contract traps
- Cancel and refund terms are not published on the pages we read. Ask vendor.
- The Discovery Assistant processes uploaded pages automatically unless you ask support to turn it off (8am IQ FAQ, checked Oct 19, 2026).
Questions to ask 8am
- What does "use inputs and outputs to develop and improve our products" include? Can I opt out of it and still use 8am IQ?
- Does OpenAI keep any of my documents, and for how long?
- Which plan includes the Case Assistant: Pro or Advanced?
- Where is my data stored, and how do I export everything if I leave?
Strengths
- Published per user prices for every plan (MyCase pricing, checked Oct 19, 2026).
- Names its AI provider and has a firm wide off switch (8am IQ FAQ, checked Oct 19, 2026).
- SOC 2 Type II (8am AI page, checked Oct 19, 2026).
Limits
- The FAQ allows 8am to use AI inputs and outputs to improve its products (8am IQ FAQ, checked Oct 19, 2026).
- Discovery OCR is on by default and can only be turned off through support (8am IQ FAQ, checked Oct 19, 2026).
- Two 8am pages disagree on which plan includes the Case Assistant (checked Oct 19, 2026).
Our take
This is our opinion, based on the sourced facts above. MyCase is easy to price, and 8am is open about using OpenAI. The line we would not skip is the one saying 8am "may use inputs and outputs to develop and improve our products." That is broader than "we never train on your data." Ask what it means in practice, and decide about the Discovery Assistant before you upload a big document set.
