AI receptionists and answering

Posh review: live and AI answering for attorneys

Posh's minute plans, its AI plus live receptionist option, and its unusually specific data retention rules. Sourced and dated.

Last checked

What it does: Posh answers calls 24/7 with live receptionists, an AI receptionist, or a mix. It offers legal intake, message taking, transfers, and optional Spanish answering (Posh home page, attorney page, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Who it fits: Small firms on a budget that want low entry prices and the choice to use AI for overflow and after hours calls (Posh pricing, Posh AI, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Price

Live receptionist plans, marked "Effective 1/1/26" (Posh pricing, checked Oct 19, 2026):

Plan Monthly price Minutes included Extra minutes
Chic $65 0 $2.30
Vogue $130 50 $2.20
Elegant $215 100 $2.15
Luxurious $420 200 $2.10
Prestigious $700 350 $2.00
Lavish $975 500 $1.95
Exclusive $1,900 1,000 $1.90

AI plus live plans use the same base prices with "mixed minutes," and extra AI minutes cost about half as much as live ones. For example, Elegant AI is $215 for 100 mixed minutes, then $2.15 per live minute or $1.08 per AI minute (Posh AI, checked Oct 19, 2026). Posh offers a free trial (Posh pricing, checked Oct 19, 2026).

How minutes are counted: Usage is billed in 60 second steps and rounded up. It includes time a receptionist spends finishing your message after the caller hangs up. Time the AI agent spends is billed too (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Data Trail card

Question What Posh says Source
Where is caller data stored? Not published. Checked Posh pages listed above, Oct 19, 2026
Is it used to train AI? Not addressed. The privacy policy says: "We do not use any Personal Information we collect through our Services for any purposes not included in our agreements." Ask whether your agreement allows AI training. Privacy policy, checked Oct 19, 2026
How long is it kept? Posh says it keeps your data no more than 24 months and call recordings no more than 90 days. All data is deleted after your account ends, and Posh will not send you data from a closed account unless a custom agreement says so. Posh terms, section 12, checked Oct 19, 2026
Can callers get data deleted? Posh says it will not delete personal information when a consumer asks, and that its records are read only. Privacy policy, checked Oct 19, 2026
Who else touches it? Service providers such as telecom, IT, billing, and data hosting companies. A named list is not published on the pages we read. Privacy policy, checked Oct 19, 2026

Integrations

Posh lists Clio Grow and Clio Manage, Rocket Matter, Zoho, Calendly, Acuity Scheduling, Setmore, and Zapier (Posh integrations, attorney page, checked Oct 19, 2026). On conflict checks, Posh says it "supports your firm's internal conflict check processes" by relaying caller details, so expect your team to run the actual check (attorney page, checked Oct 19, 2026). Posh says its AI can transfer a call to a live receptionist for "more complex or sensitive needs" (Posh AI, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Setup effort and hidden costs

  • Posh's attorney page says there are no setup or cancellation fees (attorney page, checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • Rounding and after call message time count toward minutes (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • Plan changes take effect at the start of the next billing period (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Contract traps

  • Liability cap: a credit of up to 15 days of your monthly fee or $500, whichever is less. You must give written notice of a claim within 14 days of the problem (Posh terms, section 17, checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • Your plan renews monthly. If you end early, you pay through the end of the current term with no refund for the unused part (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • Binding arbitration unless you opt out (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Questions to ask Posh

  1. Will you sign a BAA, and does your HIPAA claim cover the AI receptionist?
  2. Which AI provider powers the AI receptionist, and can it train on my calls?
  3. Where is call data stored, and is it encrypted at rest?
  4. Can I get a SOC 2 report or similar audit?
  5. Can I get a final export of messages and recordings when I leave?

Strengths

  • Lowest published entry price among the receptionist services we checked (Posh pricing, checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • Clear written limits on how long data and recordings are kept (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • AI minutes cost less than live minutes, and the AI can hand complex or sensitive calls to a person (Posh AI, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Limits

  • No published security audit, storage location, or AI training policy (checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • $500 liability cap and a 14 day window to raise a claim (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).
  • Everything is deleted when you leave, so you must plan your exit (Posh terms, checked Oct 19, 2026).

Our take

This is our opinion, based on the sourced facts above. Posh is easy to try and cheap to start. We like that it puts real numbers on data retention. We would want written answers on the AI provider, training, and a BAA before routing client calls through its AI. The 14 day claim window is short, so read your call logs often in the first months.
